Compare the exact product
Do not compare proposals that simply say “architectural shingles.” Ask for the manufacturer, product line, color, underlayment, starter course, ridge product, flashing scope, and ventilation details.
Installation details matter
- Deck condition and fastening surface
- Starter strips and edge details
- Valley and wall flashing
- Pipe and roof penetrations
- Ridge and attic ventilation where needed
- Manufacturer-required fastening pattern
Warranty questions
Ask what portion of the warranty comes from the manufacturer and what portion covers workmanship by the installer. Read exclusions and transfer terms rather than relying only on the headline warranty length.
When comparing estimates
Make sure each proposal includes comparable tear-off, decking, underlayment, flashing, ventilation, cleanup, and warranty terms before comparing price.
